Bumblebee Dart Frog – Dendrobates leucomelas
Bring striking color to your planted vivarium with a bumblebee dart frog from Ohio Pet Depot in Mansfield, Ohio. Also known as the yellow-banded poison dart frog, Dendrobates leucomelas is admired for its bold yellow-to-orange markings contrasted against a black background. Its distinctive pattern makes it a standout species for amphibian enthusiasts.
A Colorful Species for a Tropical Vivarium
Bumblebee dart frogs are active during the day, offering opportunities to observe their natural behavior in a thoughtfully designed habitat. A planted tropical vivarium with leaf litter, sheltered retreats, and room to explore provides an engaging display while supporting their care needs.
Care and Habitat Essentials
These amphibians require a secure enclosure with appropriate humidity, ventilation, and stable, species-appropriate temperatures. Provide suitable substrate, hiding areas, and clean water, and monitor conditions carefully. Feed appropriately sized live insects, such as flightless fruit flies, with suitable calcium and vitamin supplementation. Research a complete species-specific care plan before bringing your frog home.
Dart frogs are best appreciated as display animals rather than handled pets. Their delicate skin makes minimizing handling important. Plan your enclosure and feeding routine in advance, and identify a veterinarian experienced with amphibians for ongoing care.
