Blue Azureus Dart Frog
Add vivid color to your tropical vivarium with a blue azureus dart frog from Ohio Pet Depot in Mansfield, Ohio. Known scientifically as Dendrobates tinctorius 'Azureus', this distinctive dart frog features brilliant blue coloration accented by contrasting black spots. Its striking appearance makes it a memorable centerpiece for a carefully planned amphibian habitat.
A Standout for Planted Vivariums
Also commonly called the blue poison dart frog, the azureus is active during the day, giving keepers opportunities to observe its natural behavior. A planted enclosure with leaf litter, sheltered retreats, and usable floor space creates an attractive display while providing places to explore and hide. These frogs are best appreciated as display animals, not pets for frequent handling.
Habitat and Feeding Essentials
Blue azureus dart frogs need a secure tropical vivarium with carefully maintained humidity, adequate ventilation, and stable, species-appropriate temperatures. Plan the enclosure before bringing your frog home, and monitor conditions consistently. Include appropriate substrate, hiding places, and access to clean water.
Offer appropriately sized live feeder insects, such as flightless fruit flies, with suitable calcium and vitamin supplementation. Research a complete species-specific care routine, including feeding, enclosure maintenance, and housing compatibility. Do not assume that unfamiliar frogs can be housed together. An amphibian-experienced veterinarian is an important resource for ongoing health care.
